Kialoa II Refit 2016 / 2017
Kialoa II was one of the first “Maxi” yachts. The ocean racing legend was designed in 1963 by Sparkman & Stephens, and built in lightweight aluminium for the famous yachtsman Jim Kilroy. She was launched in California in 1964, and became one of the most successful yachts of her time.
She was bought in 2016 with the view to compete in the classic ocean races as Kialoa II did under Jim Kilroy.
When she was purchased by the Keith and Patrick Broughton, her systems and machinery had become out dated and unreliable. Kialoa II was brought to the Hamble for a major refit.
Pinpoint listened carefully to the needs of our clients and their individual yachting requirements and supplied cutting edge products to modernise their systems in preparation for their planned ocean races. We supplied all the electronic navigation systems including the communications equipment, the hydraulic steering pump and electronics charts.
The Kialoa II had a fully integrated B&G Zeus 3 system, the chart plotter fully networked with the MFDs, online services and mobile devices using built-in Wi-Fi, and integrate seamlessly with a wide range of instruments and accessories for greater safety, performance, and enjoyment on the water.
The new system has provided Kialoa II with the tools so she is ready for the gruelling ocean races again!
